Native Grass Drill

This was the very first piece of habitat management equipment we purchased as a chapter. It is an 8' Truax no-till native grass drill and is available through the Lewis County Soil and Water Conservation District in Monticello.

This drill is equipped with three different seed boxes capable of planting the smallest forb seeds, the fluffiest native grass seed, clear up to large grains such as soybeans. It has depth bands that keep it from planting the seed too deep which is a common reason for native grass failures. In 2007 alone, it planted over 200 acres of native grass habitat throughout northeast Missouri.

Since the transport wheels are clear to the back of the machine, it has considerable tongue weight so we strongly suggest using at least a 3/4 ton truck to transport it.

The drill rents for $12/acre (it has an acre counter on it) or $10/acre for projects over 20 acres. To reserve or rent this piece, contact the Lewis SWCD at (573) 767-5276 ext. 3.
