2008 Lewis County Conservation and Wildlife Field Day - May 31, 2008 at Deer Ridge Conservation Area

The Lewis County Conservation and Wildlife Field Day is COMPLETELY FREE and open to the public. With so much to do, this event is fun for the entire family! Some of the activities and attractions at this year's event included:

  • Shotgun Range at Conservation DayOpen Shooting Ranges - Rifle, shotgun, air rifle, and archery shooting were available. All ranges are hosted by certified 4-H Shooting Sports instructors. Whether you're a novice or a bonafide Annie Oakley, you're welcome to try your marksmanship skills. All shooting equipment and supplies is provided.
  • Field tours - Take a ride on the habitat wagons to see the forestry and wildlife management taking place at Deer Ridge.
  • Free Lunch - Who says there's no such thing as a free lunch? This year we served over 150 people.

  • Exhibits, displays, and demonstrations - Many local businesses and organizations were on hand to discuss their services. Tour a fire truck or ambulance, see a real police patrol dog demonstrate its abilities, talk to professionals and volunteers from various local wildlife organizations, learn about chain saw and ATV safety, and see the Air-Evac helicopter land at Deer Ridge.

  • Youth Turkey Calling Contest - We also hosted a youth turkey calling contest led by champion turkey caller Billy Yargus.
